Meet Josh, Your Payroll Tax Team Lead

Meet Josh, Your Payroll Tax Team Lead

“Persistence pays off.”

"Persistence pays off."

These three words define how Josh tackles every day – both personally and professionally. His continuous drive toward personal development speaks volumes to his tenacity and work ethic. To Josh, the epitome of success is “feeling good about what you do, feeling like you’re progressing and challenging yourself.”

In fact, this search for fulfillment led Josh on his journey to ConnectPay over two years ago. After experiencing one too many uninspiring work environments, he wanted a company that valued people and culture – an environment where he could feel accomplished while still enjoying in his everyday work.

“Payroll is payroll is payroll. But the company and the culture make a big difference,” Josh contends.

As a member of ConnectPay’s tax team, Josh enjoys collaborating with his coworkers, calculating payroll taxes and managing filings to ensure every client stays compliant with the IRS. “I like that we provide a service to clients that helps them not have to focus solely on taxes,” Josh remarks. “People are scared of taxes because they don’t know it fully. We give them the peace of mind that they’re looking for.”

With his initiative and an innate desire to take care of every client, Josh quickly became promoted to Tax Supervisor. “What we do is incredibly important,” Josh maintains. “It’s challenging, but you make a difference in people’s lives at the end of the day, so it feels good.”

And if anyone knows the definition of challenging, it’s Josh. Tax challenges are minimal compared to the difficult circumstances Josh faced after being involved in a serious car accident. Following the crash, Josh went through a grueling six-month recovery process that seemed near to impossible to overcome. “They might as well tell you that you can fly,” he says, looking back at his time in the hospital.

Yet, after a long road of highs and lows, Josh only became stronger.  “Persistence pays off,” he reiterates. “It’s about not getting too up or down in a moment – because the moment is only temporary.”

Viewing each moment as fleeting allows Josh to seek new and exciting opportunities that push his own boundaries. “I like the idea of new experiences and not getting stuck in a rut,” he explains. “When you get older, everything is regimented. You need that sense of adventure.”

Josh’s daring mindset even gave him the courage to go skydiving, jumping out of a small plane over Newport, despite his fear of heights. “When you jump it feels like you’re falling and then it feels like you’re floating,” he describes the experience.

When Josh isn’t jumping out of planes, he delights in the smaller moments too, whether he’s watching the Patriots play, spending quality time with family and friends, working out at the gym or relaxing on the beach. “The beach is my happy de-stress place,” Josh conveys. “I’m really passionate about it. I used to go at least once a week.”

Then, for those moments when Josh needs to escape or reset, he reaches for books. From fiction to self-development books, he uses reading as an outlet to evolve his perspective. “I read to help my openness – to see what I can do differently.”

Josh brings his open perspective back to the office with him as well, using what he’s learned to work more efficiently with his team in order to better serve our clients. If you’re looking for a payroll tax expert to help your small business, Josh definitely understands what it takes to get the job done.
